Ohiopyle Falls

Ohioplye Falls, is without a doubt, the most visited place in Ohiopyle State Park. The river-wide waterfall is about 20 feet high. Long the main attraction in the park, Ohiopyle Falls comes complete with its own large parking lot, viewing platforms and restrooms near-by.

Accessing the Falls

The best place to park in order to view Ohiopyle Falls is the main parking lot off of Route 381 (see map below). There are plenty of parking spots. Once you park, make you way to the large elevated platforms overlooking Ohiopyle Falls. The viewing platforms give you an unobstructed view of the falls in all of their glory. If you want to see some serious white water action, view the waterfall in the spring, when the water can be coming with such force as to turn the waterfall into a huge slide, not safe for anyone!

If you want to be a little more adventurous, there is a trail on the river bank opposite the side of the viewing platforms. Park in the parking lot besides the railroad tracks near Wilderness Voyaguers and make your way down the river bank. While doing this, excersize great caution. A slip into the river is something you want to avoid at all costs. People have been swept over Ohiopyle Falls and have drowned in the past. You can make your way the whole way down to and below the falls. There are some great views from this side.

The Ohiopyle Falls Race

In the late summer Ohiopyle State Park has the Falls Race. This is the only day of the year that kayakers and other white water enthusiasts are permitted to run the falls. The whole town sets up with a festival. It is a great time to visit the park.
