The Youghiogheny River is widely acknowledged to be one of the best trout rivers in all of Pennsylvania. With ice cold water coming out of the Youghiogheny Lake Dam every day, trout prosper in the waters of the Youghiogheny. Trout are not the only species of fish that is frequently caught in the Youghiogheny. Smallmouth Bass, walleye and other game fish are cuahgt in large numbers. When it comes to trout, Brown trout, Rainbow trout and Brook trout are found throughout the Yough.

Hot Spots for fishing in Ohiopyle

The best section of the river for trout fishing is the Middle Yough. Starting in the town of Confluence, the Middle Yough winds it way down 11 miles of beautiful Ohiopyle scenery. On the Lower Yough many nice fish are caught right below the falls in Ohiopyle. Another hotspot on the Lower Yough is the huge eddy on river left at Cucumber Rapid. You can get to this spot by parking the the parking lot for Cucumber Falls and walk down to the river.
